Sobre a Função

Ubuntu Consultants is a people-first consulting firm based in Johannesburg, dedicated to driving meaningful change across communities and organisations in South Africa and beyond. We believe that great research starts with listening, and we are looking for a curious, empathetic Qualitative Officer to join our growing team.

This is an entry-level, full-time role perfect for someone who is passionate about understanding people's stories and turning those insights into actionable findings. You will work closely with senior researchers and project leads to support qualitative research projects from start to finish.

If you love asking the right questions, connecting with diverse communities, and making sense of complex human experiences, we want to hear from you.

Responsabilidades

Assist in planning and conducting qualitative research activities including focus groups, in-depth interviews, and community conversations across Johannesburg and surrounding areas.

Transcribe, organise, and analyse qualitative data, identifying key themes and patterns that inform project recommendations.

Support the preparation of research reports, presentations, and summaries that clearly communicate findings to clients and stakeholders.

Help coordinate fieldwork logistics including scheduling participants, preparing discussion guides, and managing consent documentation.

Collaborate with team members to ensure research is conducted ethically, inclusively, and in line with Ubuntu Consultants' values and quality standards.

Requisitos

A diploma or bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Anthropology, Development Studies, Communications, or a related field. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Some exposure to qualitative research methods through coursework, internships, or volunteer work. Formal work experience is not required but will be an advantage.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in one or more additional South African languages is a significant plus.

A genuine interest in people and communities, with the ability to engage respectfully and sensitively across diverse cultural backgrounds.

Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace. Familiarity with qualitative analysis tools such as NVivo or Atlas.ti is beneficial but not essential.

Benefícios

A competitive entry-level salary benchmarked to the Johannesburg market, reviewed annually based on performance and growth.

A supportive, inclusive workplace culture where your ideas are valued and mentorship is built into how we work every day.

Opportunities for professional development including training in research methods, data analysis tools, and project management.

Flexible working arrangements, 15 days of annual leave, and access to an employee wellness programme to support your overall wellbeing.
